Well, I think my poor squash was sat too close to the freezer. Now every time I bring it out it melts and shrivels a little more. It's oozing and taking on the appearance of Snow White's poisoned apple.
The chayote's transformation did present me with the decision of how much of the wrinkly deterioration I should include in the sculpted piece. I decided on accents all of the piece to describe both texture and to create more obvious shadow points.
Finally came possibly the hardest part in carving out the piece as to leave only a 5/8th inch wall all over. The piece was unweildy and difficult to carve out, but in the end it took less time than I expected. Now all that's left is to let it dry out and then it will be ready to fire!
